This policy covers tas-tech.net and the self-hosted services operated by Tas-Tech (including Nextcloud, MeshCentral, and similar tools). It explains what's collected, why, and what isn't done with it.
Like virtually every web server, this site and the self-hosted services log standard request data — IP address, timestamp, user agent, and the URL requested — along with 404s and other errors. These logs are analysed locally using GoAccess, a self-hosted log analytics tool; nothing is sent to a third-party analytics service. Failed logins and other suspicious activity are also logged and fed into a security monitoring system used to detect and block malicious traffic. This infrastructure also runs honeypots and tarpits aimed at automated scanners and attackers — if that's not you, this won't affect you.
If you have an account on one of the self-hosted services, that service holds whatever it needs to operate — for example, login details, and any files, backups, or device information you store or connect through it. This data stays on Tas-Tech's own infrastructure; it is not sold, shared, or handed to third parties, and isn't used for marketing.
tas-tech.net itself uses no cookies, no analytics scripts, and no third-party trackers of any kind. Self-hosted services that require login (Nextcloud, MeshCentral, etc.) use their own functional session cookies to keep you logged in — nothing beyond what's needed to make the login work.
Log data is kept only as long as it's useful for security and troubleshooting, then purged. Account and service data is kept for as long as the account is active, and is deleted on request or when an account is decommissioned.
Reasonable technical measures are in place to protect data — access restrictions, monitoring, and the blocking described above — but no system is perfectly secure, and no guarantee is made against unauthorised access. See the Terms of Use for how liability is handled.
Tas-Tech is a small, individually-run operation and may fall below the turnover threshold that triggers full obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Regardless, if you want to know what data is held about you, or want it corrected or deleted, get in touch — reasonable requests will be honoured in good faith.
The Services aren't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
This policy may be updated from time to time; the current version always applies. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
